Reading every issue of Master of Kung-Fu, which spanned a decade, has really put into perspective both the value and chore of reading something this long so comprehensively.

I finally finished the series (this volume) today. I read volumes 1, 2, and 3 last summer & fall over a period of a few months, bits at a time. I purchased volumes 2 and 3 about a month later at my local store, because I got a good price. I purchased *this,* the 4th and final volume, on my trip to New Orleans right before Covid struck because I found it for a good price. I stayed curious as I really liked that first volume, particularly as it got into the Gulacy artwork & Bond-meets-Kung-Fu stuff as Moench hit his stride. I purchased volumes 2 and 3 about a month later I purchased the first Omnibus edition in early 2017, having been curious about it but hesitant to jump into the series because four volumes is quite a lot of money. Having finally read this, the accolades are well-deserved, for it possesses a unique viewpoint in the world of "super-hero"comics.more The volume ends with the attempts to bring the character back into the mainstream, both of which are decent attempts to recreate the formula, but by this time, martial arts are no longer new to America, and someone walking around fighting with their hands when nearly everyone has a gun just doesn't seem plausible. Strangely, the series continues for a couple more months with what feels like stories that don't matter after the definitive climax. The main series has a finale, but it isn't the final issue. Sadly, just a few issues short of the end, apparently he died of a heart attack at a very young age. He continues the imaginative page designs and detailed double-paged spreads filled with ornate buildings and statues. Like the three volumes before, this one should also be praised for its art, drawn by Gene Day. These final issues continue the adventures that are mixed with intense action and meditative musings.
